Ina Garten vs. Anthony Bourdain: Cookbook Battle

48

Everyone’s beloved aunt, Ina Garten, firmly holds the top position on Amazon.com’s best-selling cookbooks list just two days after the release of her latest masterpiece, “Cooking for Jeffrey”. Trailing closely behind her in the second spot is the globetrotting food enthusiast and former chef Anthony Bourdain with his new offering, “Appetites: A Cookbook”, which also made its way onto the shelves on October 25th.

It’s not without reason that Bourdain once described his approach to writing his new cookbook as if he had “transformed into a psychotic, overly meticulous, ill-tempered Ina Garten”.

These two television stars have extensive histories in the publishing world, and unsurprisingly, their latest works are commanding the charts. “Cooking for Jeffrey” marks Garten’s tenth cookbook, featuring 256 pages filled with recipes that her husband Jeffrey (frequently mentioned on her show) and his friends often request. The world has warmly embraced the story of Ina and Jeffrey, and this book is like a warm and comforting embrace in return for those who have followed the Gartens on “The Barefoot Contessa” (and perhaps even dream of being adopted by them).

Meanwhile, “Appetites” is merely Bourdain’s second cookbook, although his writing achievements extend into the domains of crime novels, a biography, and comic books, as he pointed out in a recent interview with Eater. That list encompasses his most renowned book, “Kitchen Confidential”, which was a “New York Times” bestseller in the non-fiction category.

Here’s a glimpse of how popular they have been over the years, as indicated by Google Trends.

Garten is renowned for consistently creating best-selling cookbooks, and “Cooking for Jeffrey” is demonstrating its potential early on. She has a six-city tour planned in collaboration with Williams-Sonoma to promote the book.
